In 2012 we are giving you the opportunity to create your very own bloco for our Bestival Carnival parade! This is your chance to get creative with your mates (or even people you don’t know yet!) and express yourselves in true carnival style.
Bestival has always been known for having an unrivalled fancy dress tradition, with you guys pulling out all the stops to represent the theme each year in mindbogglingly colourful and inventive ways. So we know that you are a very talented and arty lot!
Now we’re stepping it up a gear and you - our lovely audience - are in the driving seat.
2012 is the year of the Bestival Blocos, with the Wildlife theme as your inspiration!
What exactly is a bloco?
A bloco is simply a group of people who get together to take part in a carnival!
You pick something that is close to your heart to unite you as a group:
This could be:
And many other ideas…
And then you walk together as a group in the carnival parade, to showcase what you have created.
The bloco tradition started in Brazil with Samba dancing, but has now spread to all types of carnivals all over the world with everyone creating their own unique way of expressing themselves.
The Bestival Blocos will be a celebration of all you talented and fun people – musicians, costume makers, dancers, performers, party people! – coming together to display their creativity in many innovative ways.
Through the Bestival Blocos, we’ll all be sharing our love of Bestival, lifting everyone’s spirits and reminding ourselves that we are all part of one big wonderful festival family!
